Default Boots Recomendation?

Recommendations? I'm looking in the Cabela's catalog, see a lot of variety, but can't help but think I'd get the best advice right here. Pros, Cons?

Thanks folks!

Chuck!

I thought dog food recommendations was a can of worms! Boots are as personal a choice as you can get. I work in boots and I get boots that suit my needs. What are your needs and expectations?

Swack,

Great question! I forgot (thought you all were mind readers) some important particulars. Am thinking about tall rubber (maybe neoprene) boots,,, like so many Brit dog trainers wear. Something I can walk comfortably in all day,,, maybe something warm enough for a 32 degree day, but not too hot for a sunny 90 degree day.

I wonder if the same insulation (800 - 1200 grams?) that would keep heat in on a -30 degree day would help keep the sun's burning heat out on a 95 degree day. I once heard someone comment how hot a particular pair of boots were with the sun beating on them. For the current boot search I'm thinking more about the hotter day and less about the sub zero days.

Replys need not be as numerous, verbose, or as heart whenching as dogfood posts.

Thanks for your thoughts!
Chuck

Swack, All

I just returned from walking the dog. It's been raining (days) and snowing here. My left pant leg is wet up to about 18 to 20 inches from the ground. Right leg is relatively dry. The 18" boots look real good about now. I'm currently looking at the LaCrosse Burly ATS. But I change my mind at least twice a day.

I think it may have been Craig that mentioned something about some boots that were too hot.

I'd hope someone like Robert, that's been woking in boots like this for years, would have some valuable recommendations.

Chuck,

I have a pare of Lacross Alpha Lite (3.5 MM neoprene) and really like them. I don't see the same model on the web as mine are OD green and about 18" tall. They are very comfortable to walk in and I've put a ton of mile on them in the last year. Although I've got a couple snags in the neoprene from working on blinds, they easy to repair with shoe goo. I think I paid $58 bucks on sale at farm store.

Thanks Bob! Sounds like yours are ideal and at a super price. I hope to find something similar. Your recommendation and a casual web search seem to indicate LaCrosse are about as good as anything out there. And suprisingly prices direct from LaCrosse look to be cheaper than from some retailers,,, and free shipping, and some very candid reviews on the LaCrosse web site. Maybe I'll end this search soon.

Thankfully there are fewer boot makers than dog food manufacturers.

Chuck,

Thanks for the parameters on your boot requirements. Have you looked into Muck Boots? I have a pair of Muck Scrub Boots (my second pair acctually) that I use around the kennel and they are very comfortable. I know they come in taller versions designed for the marsh. I have heard good reviews from all I know who have worn them. They might be worth a look.

I hope that was short and sweet enough for you. Personally, I miss the drama!

Thanks Swack!

I took another look at Muck Boots on the web. They and LaCrosse do seem to be the big two. Not much drama here. Most guys would be pleased with boots from either. I've finally made a choice on a pair of LaCrosse.

This is about the time (just after hitting the "Complete Sale" botton) the sky opens up and I get word of what the best choice should have been. OK guys. Now tell me, what should the choice have been? In hopes of outliving these boots, I'll be be on the lookout; pay more attention to what people wear and what they like. So, if you see me staring at your boots,,, you'll know I'm not totally crazy.

Thanks Guys!!!

Chuck,

If this were a thread on the best dog food I would have gone on a little bit more (OK, a LOT more!). But since you wanted me to cut to the chase, here it is: "The best rubber boots made on this planet are Le Chameau" (or something like that). For a measley few hundred dollars you can have a pair of your own! I hope you hit the lottery so you can tell us peasants how well they fit and feel!

Swack

P.S. The only difference between a Junior Member and a Senior Member is the amount of hot air he holds! Welcome to the club!!!
