Default Scout's First Hunt and First Retrieve

Scout was such a joy to have out in the blind. He had his first hunt and his first retrieve. The retrieve happened to be a cripple that he never saw fall but hunted up and went after like he had been doing it all his life. So proud of himClick image for larger version.

Great picture. Scout looks a lot like my Abby. She's 7 months old. I remember that first retrieve of a wild pheasant in mid October like it was yesterday. Abby flushed the bird and after a couple minutes of my walking near to where it came down in the tall big bluestem and just waiting, here she came with the still alive bird in her mouth. Glad those big spurs didn't get into the way. My buddy hunting with me couldn't believe it. So far 13 birds and not a single one lost!! I know exactly how proud you are of him. I can't say enough about the DHK dog I was lucky enough to get.

Default Scout's Second Season: First Youth Hunt

Scout was amazing for his first time out this year. The kids had their early youth hunt here in Michigan and every bird was a long unseen cripple. Scout found each in dense cover and even went after a goose who tried to dive under water. Was a great hunt for all the Sons and their Fathers.

Sounds as if Scout has all the right stuff. Exciting isn't it ?... seeing your young dog developing into a great hunting companion. My season will start next week.
